Welcome to The Shawn Felty Cancer Fund Board Of Directors page. The following individuals were all touched by Shawn in many different ways. Here is a little bit about each of them and how Shawn crossed their paths.
Dwayne J. Frazier Founder, President
Portfolio Manager, Community Management Corporation- An Associa Company
Being Shawn’s Cousin, best friend and feeling like his younger brother it’s hard to say how he impacted my life. His personality, passion and grit is with me everyday. We were always around each other. Ultra competitive ever since we were children. I liked the Philadelphia Phillies Shawn the Pittsburgh Pirates. I liked the Sixers, Shawn the Celtics. He would run a mile in 7 minutes. I had to beat him. I make 92 out of 100 foul shots, Shawn makes 93. He gets an A in math class I get a C….
We liked the same sports, foods, drinks, and hobbies… I am very proud of knowing Shawn and having him give me inspiration, guidance, insight and the courage to move forever forward.
We sat one evening at home while Shawn was on Chemo watching the Jimmy V. week and his famous speech was playing in the background. Shawn looked over at me from the couch speaking in a soft voice and said.. “Hey, maybe someday.” I replied yeah.. someday.. but not for a long time. Well that someday is now and Shawn will forever be remembered and we will carry out what he could not finish. Finding a cure.
Jack J. Frazier, Vice President
Real Estate agent/Property Manager
Uncle Jack was what Shawn called me.. Sometimes it was hey, or Yo. But I was always near by. It was easy to see that Shawn enjoyed having me around as his uncle and in many ways I felt like a father to him because of the great bond that my son Dwayne and Shawn shared. The two were like brothers so that ment every time I bought my son a gift I bought Shawn one as well. I even helped Shawn learn how to ride a bike at the tender age of 16. Yes, Shawn did not know how to ride a bike until he was 16 years old. In fact, weeks prior Shawn just received his learners permit. I miss Shawn’s wisdom and his glowing personality. I keep him in my thoughts everyday to become a better person as he wanted me to be.
Brad Gieger, Board Member
Corporate Training & Development Manager, Martin Marietta Materials
I was fortunate to meet Shawn in the fall of 1991. That year I was living with Shawn’s cousin, Dwayne, and we went to visit Shawn at the University of Pittsburgh. From that meeting, I was able to experience one of the most profound moments of my life, almost 20 years later. In the fall of 2009, while battling his cancer, Shawn came to Raleigh to see his beloved Pitt Panthers play at NC State. He stayed at my house with me and my family. We spent time in Raleigh, talking “Seinfeld” and the Big East v. ACC in sports. I think the most touching moment I experienced with Shawn was his taking the time to talk to my young son Jackson, who was 2 ½ at the time. I can’t speak for all kids, but my son was drawn to Shawn and Shawn took the time to get to know my son. Jackson will never remember meeting Shawn, but I will always remember the time they spent together. I will always have the memories of Shawn to share with Jackson. My son will learn about a man who looked his mortality in the eye and while still finding time to enjoy life and share his enjoyment with others…even a 2 ½ year old.
